Signs of Dyslexia in Adults

Some adults begin to suspect they may be dyslexic later in life, particularly during higher education or in professional roles that require significant reading and writing.

Possible signs of dyslexia in adults include:

  • confusing visually similar words when reading

  • losing place when reading text

  • needing to reread paragraphs to understand them

  • difficulty organising thoughts clearly when writing

  • inconsistent spelling

  • difficulty remembering sequences or instructions

  • problems taking notes accurately

  • difficulty finding the right word when speaking

Many adults with dyslexia also demonstrate strengths such as creative thinking and strong problem-solving abilities.

Self-checklists can sometimes help individuals reflect on their learning profile, but they cannot provide a diagnosis. A formal dyslexia assessment is required for that.

If you recognise several of these signs and would like advice, you are welcome to contact WordWise Dyslexia Services. Diagnostic assessments are available for children, young people and adults across Kent and East Sussex, including Hawkhurst, Rye, Battle, Bexhill, Ninfield, Hastings and Tunbridge Wells.
