What Is a Diagnostic Dyslexia Assessment?

A diagnostic dyslexia assessment provides a comprehensive evaluation of literacy skills and the underlying cognitive processes associated with dyslexia. Assessments are available for children (aged 8+), young people and adults.

The assessment identifies an individual's strengths and areas of need, helping to explain why reading, spelling and writing may be difficult. It also provides practical, evidence-based recommendations to support learning, education, employment and everyday life.

What Does the Assessment Involve?

Duration: Approximately 2½–3 hours, including short comfort breaks.

The assessment includes a range of engaging activities exploring:

• Reading

• Spelling

• Writing

• Phonological processing

• Memory

• Cognitive processing

• Oral language

Individual tasks are varied and designed to be engaging, with regular breaks to maintain concentration.

• Free introductory telephone consultation

•  Pre-assessment consultation and comprehensive background questionnaires

• Visual difficulties screening questionnaire (in line with current SASC guidance)

• Liaison with school, college or other professionals (where appropriate)

• Comprehensive diagnostic dyslexia assessment

• Assessment at my Ninfield assessment venue, or at an agreed school, college or home (where appropriate)

• Secure online assessments for suitable candidates aged 12+ throughout the UK

•  Comprehensive written diagnostic report, usually provided within 2–3 weeks

•  Personal feedback session to explain the findings and recommendations

How Your Report Can Help

Your diagnostic report provides practical recommendations tailored to the individual's needs and may support:

• Educational provision in schools, colleges and sixth forms

• Applications for Disabled Students' Allowance (DSA)

• Workplace adjustments and Access to Work

• Reasonable adjustments for professional and vocational examinations

• Discussions regarding exam access arrangements, where appropriate and in accordance with current JCQ guidance

• Parents, educators and employers in implementing evidence-based strategies

As reports are completed by an AMBDA-qualified assessor holding a current Assessment Practising Certificate (APC), they are suitable for use by schools, colleges, universities and employers where appropriate.

📍Assessment Locations

Assessments are available:

• At my assessment venue in Ninfield, East Sussex

• At an agreed school, college or home (where appropriate)

• Online throughout the UK for suitable candidates aged 12+

Travel & Venue Fees

• A flat £15 travel fee applies to assessments outside my local area.

• Where a hired venue is required (for example, Dunk's Hall), an additional £30 venue hire fee applies.

The assessment fee includes:

• Free introductory telephone consultation

• Comprehensive diagnostic dyslexia assessment

• Detailed written diagnostic report

• Personal feedback session

Reduced fees may be available for schools, charities and multiple referrals. Please get in touch to discuss your requirements.

Payment is in full or a £75 non-refundable deposit is required to secure your booking, with the remaining balance payable 14 days before the assessment. Payment plans may be available by prior agreement.
