 JCQ Access Arrangements

Assessment Services for Schools

I provide Level 7, JCQ-compliant Access Arrangements assessments for secondary schools across Kent and East Sussex.

Assessments are conducted in line with JCQ AARA 2025/26 regulations and support applications where psychometric evidence is required.

What I Assess For

25% Extra Time (or up to 50% where appropriate)

Assessment determines whether a student meets JCQ criteria for extra time due to a substantial and long-term adverse effect on speed of working.

Evidence may include:

• Reading speed (continuous text)
• Writing speed (continuous text)
• Cognitive processing and fluency measures (e.g. working memory, phonological processing, rapid naming, decoding efficiency)

Two qualifying scores are required from permitted areas, typically falling within:

• Very Substantially Below Average (69 or below)
• Below Average (70–84)
• Low Average (85–89), when paired with another qualifying score

Scribe or Speech Recognition Technology

Assessment evidence must relate to:

• Spelling accuracy (including unrecognisable spelling attempts)
• Writing speed
• Legibility and grammatical coherence

Where appropriate, 25% extra time may also be recommended alongside a scribe.

Language Modifier (Rare and Exceptional Arrangement)

This arrangement is considered only in exceptional circumstances and requires:

• A Very Substantially Below Average score (69 or below)
in vocabulary or reading comprehension, alongside clear functional evidence.

Important Clarification

Supervised rest breaks, reader arrangements (human or computer reader), reading pens, and basic use of a word processor must reflect the student’s normal way of working and are determined and evidenced by the school. Standardised testing is not required for these arrangements.

I provide assessment evidence only for arrangements that require psychometric qualification under JCQ regulations.
