Dyslexia Assessment FAQ's

Does my child or young person or I need a dyslexia assessment?

If you or your child experiences persistent difficulties with reading, spelling, writing, processing information or organisation, a diagnostic assessment can help determine whether dyslexia is present and identify the support that may help.

👉 If you're unsure whether an assessment is the right next step, I offer a free, no-obligation consultation to discuss your concerns.

How do I prepare for the assessment?

There is no revision or preparation required. The assessment is not an exam - it simply explores how the individual learns and processes information.

To help the day run smoothly:

  • Get a good night's sleep beforehand.

  • Have something to eat before the assessment.

  • Bring a drink and snack.

  • Remember there are no right or wrong answers.

Regular breaks are provided throughout the assessment.

What happens during the assessment?

The assessment consists of a range of engaging activities tailored to the individual's age. These explore areas such as:

  • Reading and spelling

  • Writing

  • Phonological processing

  • Memory and processing speed

  • Underlying cognitive strengths

  • Oral language and reasoning (where appropriate)

Each activity is kept manageable, with regular breaks. My aim is to create a calm, relaxed and supportive environment so that everyone can perform at their best.

Where will the assessment take place?

I offer:

  • Face-to-face assessments from my assessment room in Ninfield, East Sussex.

  • Online assessments for young people (aged 12+) and adults throughout the UK.

  • I can also travel to your home, school, college, university or workplace where a suitable private room is available.

Travel within approximately one hour can usually be arranged for an additional £15. For locations further afield, or where multiple assessments can be booked on the same day, please contact me to discuss availability and travel costs.

If you're unsure which option is most suitable, please get in touch and I'll be happy to advise.
