When phonics isn't enough
Has phonics not been enough for your child?
If your child is still struggling with reading, spelling or writing, they may need a different approach.
I offer specialist morphology-based tuition to support children with dyslexia and ongoing literacy difficulties - particularly where phonics alone has not been effective.
When phonics isn’t enough
Many children complete phonics programmes but continue to:
• struggle with spelling
• find reading difficult
• have poor reading comprehension
• lack confidence in writing
This can be frustrating for both children and parents.
A different approach is sometimes needed.
What is morphology?
Morphology is the study of how words are built using meaning units (morphemes).
Children learn to recognise:
• prefixes (e.g. un-, re-)
• root words
• suffixes (e.g. -ing, -tion)
This helps children to:
• improve spelling accuracy
• understand vocabulary
• access meaning when reading
Morphology Tuition for Schools
Morphology intervention can also be delivered in schools as small group or 1:1 support.
This is particularly effective for pupils who continue to struggle despite quality phonics teaching.
